Public Safety and Access to Justice
Ensuring the safety of our community in the 85th district is one of our top priorities. We must fund our public safety providers like firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement, correction officers, 911 dispatchers, and social workers. Crucially, supporting law enforcement training and having an emphasis and focus on effective community policing is key to building trust and strong relationships within our neighborhoods. Recognizing the importance of fostering these relationships, experts advocate for community-building as the background of community safety. Mental health care services continue to be a pressing issue. We must ensure that adequate resources are available to support those in need. In order to empower our public safety providers in safeguarding our community, their own wellbeing must be a priority as well. We can do this by ensuring ample resources for staffing and rest. We must address the workforce shortage within our public safety sector by championing and supporting technical colleges and universities. We can attract and retain the brightest minds to bolster our public safety infrastructure. Additionally, full funding for essential organizations like domestic violence and sexual assault service providers, as well as the legal aid system, is vital to uphold equal justice under the law. To ensure justice for all, reviewing the public defender compensation model and sustaining critical funding for the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) is essential. This platform is dedicated to fortifying our community’s safety and well-being through strategic investments and unwavering support for those who protect and serve.
